How to Create a New Site with FlashFXP

Software you need: FlashFXP

Download FlahFXP and install.

Once you start FlashFXP, open the Site Manager by pressing F4 or selecting Sites -> Site Manager from the main menus. This will bring up the Site Manager as seen below.

1. The Site Manager allows you to add FTP sites for easy access at a later time. To create a new FTP site profile, click the New Site button in the lower left hand corner of the window. This will bring up a dialog box asking you to enter a name for this site. Enter a name and press OK.

2. After entering a name, you will be brought back to the main Site Manager window. Next you will need to finish entering the information about the site. Enter the IP address or domain name of the server in the IP Address field.

3. You will then need to fill in the Port field. Unless you know that the FTP server is on a non-standard port, leave the default value of 21.

4. Next you will need to fill in the User Name field. This is the username that will allow you to access the FTP server, and must be obtained from the server administrator for the site. You can then enter the password that goes with the username in the Password field. If you know that the site you are connecting to is a public server (open to anyone), you can select the checkbox that says "Anonymous." If you do this, both the User Name and Password fields wil be disabled.

5. If there is a specific directory you want FlashFXP to enter on connecting to the remote server, you will need to fill in the Remote Path field. If you are unsure of what directory you want to enter, you can leave this field blank which will take you to the root folder you can access at the site.

6. If there is a specific local directory you want FlashFXP's local browser to switch to when you connect to this site, you can fill in the Local Path field or click the folder button to browse for it. If no setting is made here FlashFXP will use the path found within Preferences (F6) on the General tab under "Default Download Path".

7. You can leave the Proxy Server setting to the default in most cases. If you are planning to connect to the FTP server through proxy server, however, you select the proper server from the drop down menu. Proxy server settings can be made under Preferences (F6) under the Connection/Proxy section.

8. The Time Zone and Notes fields allow you to specify a time zone and include comments about a server, respectively. Changing both of these fileds is optional.

When you are done filling in all the fields, click Apply to save the site and then Close to exit the Site Manager. You can also hit Connect to save and attempt to connect to the newly created site.
