How to create Multi-Volume Archives?

Software you need: WinRAR



Here are the steps to create mulit-volume archives:



1.Run Pocket RAR .



2.Go to the folder which contains files to archive using Pocket RAR file managenment.



3.Select the files and folders which you would like to compress.



Activate keyboard “Ctrl” to mark more than one file or folder, or activate keyboard “Shift” to mark begin and end of the files or folders to compress. You can also mark all files and folder in the current directory using “Select All” from File menu.



First: There are several ways to compress the marked files:



* Tap on book icon



* Choose “Add” from the Tools menu



* Tap on the marked files and choose “Add files” from the displayed menu



Pocket RAR will then display the archiving dialog with the default settings



Second: follow the same steps decribed in the compression guide:



* Enter the archive name

* Choose RAR archive format

* Check the "Delete files" option if you wish to remove files after archiving.

* The "Solid archive" option is available only for RAR format.

* Choose a compression method. The "Good" and "Best" methods provide better and slower compression. In RAR format they may require more memory. The "Fastest", "Fast" and "Normal" methods take less time to compress, but usually achives a lower compression ratio.

* Press the "Password..." button and enter a password to encrypt archiving files.



Enter the volume size:



The Volume size option is available only for RAR format. If you wish to split a created archive to several files, enter the size of each single part here. By default it is entered in bytes. It is also possible to select the volume size from the list associated with this item.



After you have set all required options, press the "OK" button to start archiving.



Extract Multi-Volume Archives:



Usually Pocket RAR is the default program to open RAR files. You need to collect all required volumes in the same folder and start extraction *.part1.rar volume.

So you only need to go to the folder, which contains the multi-volume archives, tab on the first volume and choose “Extract” from the displayed menu.



There are several ways to extract multi-volume archives after you have marked the first volume:



* Tap on “open book” icon



* Choose “Extract” from the Tools menu



* Tap on the marked files and choose “Extract files” from the displayed menu



Pocket RAR will then display the extracting dialog .



Then follow these steps:

1. Pocket RAR suggest a name for the folder it creates to extract the files, based of the archive name.

You can change this folder name and you can also the path using the folder tree.

2. Please enable overwrite existing files, if your want to update old files using this archive.

3. Press “OK” to start the extraction of the files.



Notes:

If you get an error message “Next volumes is required”, when trying to unpack an multi-volumes archive, then you need to search for rest of these volumes.



You can search your Pocket PC using the “browse” button. This option listet all archives of your Pocket PC. In this case the missing part was found in folder “archive2”.



Select this volume, press ok and browse back to the previous folder to continue with the next part in folder “archive”.
